John has an impressive record of local successes.

For our younger children, John has led a massive programme of investment in local early years childcare and education:

  • New Nursery at Townfield
  • Early Years Excellence Centre at Macmillan Nursery
  • Surestart Programme and under 5s Centre at Barra Hall
  • Modernisation of Nestles Avenue Children's Centre

John has secured the resources to give our children the best start in life:

  • New schools at Barnhill Community High school, Guru Nanak primary and secondary, and Stockley Academy

  • Modernisation of Harlington and Hayes Manor secondary schools, with investment in new facilities at Mellow Lane
  • Every local primary school has gained major funds for investment to improve standards, modernise classrooms, recruit more staff, provide better sports facilities and improve school dinners
  • A new Further Education College has been built on the Hayes Campus, providing high quality training and education at the heart of the community

For our local health service, John has led the campaign of investment:

  • New Health Centres at Cedar Brook in Kingshill, Townfield, and the Town Centre
  • A Modernisation and Improvement programme for all local Doctors' Surgeries
  • A new, modern hospital to replace Hillingdon Hospital
  • More nurses, more midwives, more doctors, more consultants
 

For our local environment, John has pioneered the local green campaign:

  • New country parks at Lake Farm and Minet
  • Regeneration of Barra Hall Park, Hitherbroom Park and St Mary's fields
  • Launched the Hayes Canal Society refurbishment of our canal
  • Fought the Council’s sell off policy of community sites like the Grange and forced the council to remove dumped cars and graffiti
  • Founded and led the campaign against the Third Runway and further expansion at Heathrow to protect Harlington, Harmondsworth, Sipson, Longford and Cranford Cross

Securing a prosperous local economy:

  • Local Unemployment reduced from 18% under the Conservatives to less than 3% under Labour
  • Local adult long-term unemployment slashed by 79%
  • Five hundred new local apprenticeships
  • Local long term youth unemployment cut by 65%
  • Regeneration of major local industrial sites such as EMI

To tackle crime and anti social behaviour John has secured a massive increase in police on the beat:

  • Safer Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Townfield, Botwell, West Drayton and the Heathrow villages, and Yeading, with new teams on stream for Charville, Barnhill and Pinkwell. Each replacing a single beat bobby with five officers
  • Reopening of Hayes and West Drayton Police stations to the public with extended opening times
  • CCTV set up in Hayes town and a mobile CCTV unit
  • Setting up new neighbourhood watches and local community groups to tackle anti social behaviour
  • Taking youngsters off our streets by creating new youth facilities, opening new youth centres in the town centre, a new mobile youth centre bus, youth shelters and a BMX track at Lake Farm, and sports facilities at Barnhill and Botwell Green.
